Flat and 3D puff embroidery can start from the same logo file and still produce very different results on a cap. The useful question is not which method is “better,” but whether the artwork, cap surface and intended finish suit the embroidery method.
What changes between flat and 3D puff
Flat embroidery builds the design with thread directly on the cap. It is usually the more flexible choice when a logo contains smaller lettering, narrow lines or several separate details.
3D puff adds foam beneath selected stitched areas. The extra height can make bold lettering or simple shapes stand out, but the artwork normally needs enough width and spacing for the foam to be covered cleanly.

One logo can use both methods
The choice does not always apply to the whole logo. A cap can use puff on a large word or symbol while smaller text remains flat. That decision should be made from the actual artwork rather than from the product category alone.
What to look at on the physical sample
Check the embroidery on the cap, not only the digital mockup. Look at the finished width and height, centering on the front panels, straightness, small gaps in thread coverage and whether raised areas keep a clean outline. If a logo looks crowded after stitching, changing its size or simplifying one element can be more effective than changing the entire embroidery method.
Pricing should be confirmed from the artwork
We do not use a fixed percentage to describe the price difference between flat and puff embroidery. Stitch count, logo size, digitizing, foam use, quantity and the cap itself can all affect the quotation. The reliable comparison is made from the same artwork and order specification.
